“We chose this particular organization because it’s addressing an ongoing need, one that ought to concern everyone,” said Glenn Duncan, chief executive officer of PIRTEK USA. “In a nation of such abundance, no child should leave school on Friday and return Monday without having had enough nourishment over the weekend. Unfortunately, it’s more common than people realize, but this is an area where we can make a significant impact.”
The Children’s Hunger Project sends schoolchildren home with food in their backpacks, lightweight packages of easy-to-prepare meals, so there’s enough to eat on Saturdays and Sundays. Many of these children are recipients of free lunch programs at school, but often have too little to eat on the weekends.
PIRTEK team members will help the organization’s fundraising efforts throughout the year. The first was the Children’s Hunger project 5K in January. “PIRTEK USA is glad to have been a part of the 2nd Inaugural Fight for Children’s Hunger Project 5K. Winning 3rd in our Age Group was just an exciting added part of the fun of the day,” said Marketing Assistant, Jenny McMichael. A team of 10 from PIRTEK USA attended and participated in the event. PIRTEK is also planning to volunteer for a weekend of packing meal items in 2018.
